Formed in 2014, the Black Equity Initiative brings together Inland Empire organizations committed to social change through empowerment, education, and policy work. In 2020, it launched the Black Equity Fund — a partnership with the Inland Empire Funders Alliance and Inland Empire Community Foundation that channels core, program, and capacity-building support to Black-led organizations, guided entirely by Initiative members' own leadership and priorities. The Fund is working toward $5 million raised for Black-led organizations regionwide, and this map and StoryMap brings that work to life through data visualization and narrative storytelling.
